water supply is a 24/7 responsibility. Those responsible need rellable methods, structures, and tools to systematically assess and document risks while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, including the European Drinking Water Directive.
Water supply companies throughout Germany have opted for RiskPlus and report here on what has changed in their work.
Implementing a risk-based approach to drinking water supply is a challenging task for many water suppliers. For Energieversorgung Limburg GmbH (EVL), there is an additional special framework condition: drinking water is obtained from wells located close to the city along a river - partly with and partly without designated drinking water protection areas. What is regulated by clear zoning elsewhere must be considered under more complex framework conditions in these areas. This makes it all the more important to have a risk management system that provides orientation, makes connections visible and creates a reliable basis for decisions and communication with the authorities.
When the Drinking Water Catchment Areas Ordinance (TrinkwEGV) came into force, the Zweckverband Wasser Abwasser Vogtland was faced with a particular challenge: 59 drinking water catchment areas had to be assessed, documented and processed on time. For Ronny Röder, Head of the Drinking Water Department, it was immediately clear that the association needed a clear strategy - and a tool that could meet the high requirements.
When the Drinking Water Catchment Area Ordinance was published on 4 December 2023, it was a wake-up call for many water suppliers in Bavaria. For Thomas Junger, Head of the Water Systems Engineering Department at Stadtwerke Memmingen, this also marked the beginning of a new phase in the discussion of risk management in the water supply sector.
The new Drinking Water Catchment Areas Ordinance (TrinkwEGV) and the amended Drinking Water Ordinance (TrinkwV) require water suppliers to implement systematic risk management - combined with high technical and organisational requirements. Stadtwerke Clausthal-Zellerfeld GmbH addressed the issue of implementation at an early stage and decided in favour of the RiskPlus software solution. In close cooperation with the TZW: DVGW Technology Centre for Water, they have already successfully implemented key steps.
For many years, the Hegau-Wasser e.V. association has been pursuing the goal of preserving the independence of municipal water suppliers and at the same time creating valuable synergies through cooperation. In addition to regular dialogue and joint further training, it quickly became clear that the new requirements of the Drinking Water Catchment Areas Ordinance (TrinkwEGV) should be tackled jointly.
RiskPlus is a software solution that enables you to carry out sound and meaningful risk management in accordance with the requirements of the TrinkwEGV and TrinkwV.
The web-based application ensures optimum co-operation between water suppliers and engineering offices as well as documentation adapted to future requirements for all responsible authorities.
