Standardised procedure for drinking water suppliers in Hegau facilitates implementation

Hegau is a volcanic landscape in southern Germany near the towns of Engen and Singen (Hohentwiel), 30 kilometres west of Lake Constance. There are several extinct volcanoes in this area, including Hohentwiel, Hohenkrähen, Hohenstoffeln and Hohenhewen.

Focus on TrinkwEGV: municipal utilities and municipalities of Hegau-Wasser e.V. rely on RiskPlus

Standardised procedure for drinking water suppliers in Hegau facilitates implementation

For many years, the Hegau-Wasser e.V. association has been pursuing the goal of preserving the independence of municipal water suppliers and at the same time creating valuable synergies through cooperation. In addition to regular dialogue and joint further training, it quickly became clear that the new requirements of the Drinking Water Catchment Areas Ordinance (TrinkwEGV) should be tackled jointly.

Stadtwerke Radolfzell am Bodensee took the initiative on behalf of the member companies and municipalities and contacted the Technologiezentrum Wasser (TZW) to find out about the technical requirements and possible digital support for implementation. The focus was on the RiskPlus software solution, which was specially developed for documentation and risk assessment in drinking water catchment areas. Following the presentation of the solution, the majority of member companies and municipalities decided in favour of introducing RiskPlus - a clear signal in favour of the common course in Hegau.

Standardised solution for new requirements - with the support of TZW

To ensure a smooth start, TZW organises a joint introductory training course for everyone involved. This ensures that all suppliers have the same level of knowledge and that the application is largely standardised. The municipalities and municipal utilities in Hegau are consciously focusing on the added value of a coordinated approach - with the aim that this will also result in concrete opportunities for mutual support and neighbourly assistance. At the same time, the joint approach promotes the regional exchange of experience - a principle that has already proven its worth in other areas within the Hegau-Wasser e.V. association.

The Constance District Office also supports this approach: at a joint meeting with the parties involved, the authority expressed its openness to the chosen solution and expressly welcomed the fact that many suppliers in the district are responding to the new challenges with a standardised methodology.

With RiskPlus, the region's water suppliers are creating a common, digital basis for implementing the Drinking Water Ordinance - efficiently, reliably and with a view to the future of municipal water supply.
