areas in RiskPlus in order to take greater account of the different flow times in the various protection zones and to further differentiate the risk assessment.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-41a7037 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"41a7037\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Two components of the protective effect assessment<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-aa4d0a4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"aa4d0a4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The assessment of the protective effect of groundwater catchment areas in RiskPlus is based on two components:<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #328293;\">\u2022<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Vertical protective effect<\/strong>\u00a0of the groundwater cover based on analyses by the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources and various state geological offices.<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #328293;\">\u2022<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Horizontal protective effect<\/strong>\u00a0by the flow path in the aquifer based on the permeability of the utilised aquifer and the water protection zone.<\/p><p>The assessment and weighting are not physically based, as the data basis does not permit such an approach. Rather, the aim is to prioritise the risks based on a relative comparison of flow times. The longer the flow time, the more extensive the degradation, retention and dilution of hazards. The assessment of the horizontal protective effect has now been adapted for some permeability classes in order to optimise prioritisation. The assessment of the protective effect now takes greater account of the location in the protection zones and better reflects the protection provided by the longer flow time.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fc58fa7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"fc58fa7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">More precise risk categorisation for a better basis for decision-making<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cda0a3f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cda0a3f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>By adjusting the assessment for certain permeability classes, the protective effect within the protection zones is now taken into account in a more differentiated manner. This leads to a more accurate depiction of protection through longer flow times.<\/p><p>In some cases, optimisation has a direct impact on the assessment of the risk to the raw water:<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #328293;\">\u2022<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>In protection zones I and II, the assessment remains unchanged.<\/p><p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #328293;\">\u2022<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>In protection zone III (incl.
